While Seoul has ignored Beijing’s anxiety over its THAAD deployment, China has imposed restrictions on trade, economic activities, and cultural exchanges with South Korea in retaliation. Specifically, China has banned all imports of South Korean entertainment and music.
While Chinese tourists are welcomed due to their increased spending power, their ill manners and rude behaviors unfortunately put the host countries in a difficult position and also tarnish China’s reputation as a whole.
Footage of Queen Elizabeth II making an unguarded comment on China’s diplomats leaked out early this month. Be it cultural difference or misunderstanding, a big question that should be addressed by China is, who is its true friend after all?
